Vital Strategies Media Studio

Designing a digital showcase for Vital Strategies that organizes campaigns, storytelling, and research into one cohesive platform.

CHALLENGE

Vital Strategies needed a clearer way to present the breadth of its creative and communications work. Media Studio was designed as a central destination where visitors could browse campaigns, explore stories, and better understand the organization’s approach to strategic public health communications.

OBJECTIVE

I designed Media Studio as a scalable case-study platform that organizes campaigns into a consistent structure, supporting both quick discovery and deeper evaluation by donors and collaborators.

Building a Scalable Content Experience

Media Studio needed to accommodate a wide range of content, from campaign highlights and feature stories to organizational perspectives and team profiles. I structured the experience to be a flexible system that could support different content types while still feeling cohesive across the site.

The design focused on making the breadth of work easier to scan and explore, with reusable patterns that could grow over time as more campaigns and stories were added.

Five people wearing black shirts and protective masks hold signs spelling out '# THEY LIE WE DIE' against a cloudy sky background.
Woman wearing blue gloves and a beanie holding a vial while demonstrating on a medical training mannequin for overdose prevention.
Quote from Nzama Mbalati, Program Manager of Healthy Living Alliance, about achieving policy wins to protect public health through collaboration with civil society, researchers, and stakeholders.
Profiles of global experts Enrico Aditjondro from Indonesia and Gloria Malone from the United States with their roles and personal advocacy quotes.

Framing Campaigns as Case Studies

A key opportunity was to move beyond simple campaign promotion and give visitors more context on the thinking, strategy, and impact behind the work. Campaign pages were designed to feel more editorial and story-driven, helping users understand both the creative execution and the broader public health message.

This made the platform more useful as both a showcase of finished work and a clearer expression of Vital Strategies’ capabilities.

Infographic titled 'Michigan’s New Approach to Drug Use' with statistics: 2,300 overdose deaths in Michigan in 2020, 4 ambassadors chosen for harm reduction commitment, and 26 billboards placed in high opioid use areas.
