The legacy application was difficult to navigate, time-consuming, and prone to inconsistent entries. When field teams are collecting data, unclear workflows or lost submissions could undermine the quality of the research.
OBJECTIVE
Redesign the mobile and web experience around the realities of fieldwork, making accurate entry easier and giving research teams a clearer way to review and use submissions.

The legacy experience opened directly into manual address entry, giving collectors little context for where they were or what they should do first.
Entering each address manually slowed the process, while address-only labels made previously added locations difficult to recognize, revisit, and manage.

The product-entry form placed a high cognitive load on collectors as the number of brands, product types, and possible variations grew.
It also provided little room to document edge cases encountered in the field. Once an entry was submitted, collectors could not return to make corrections, increasing the risk of incomplete or inconsistent data.

I replaced the address-first starting point with a map-based home screen that immediately oriented collectors to their surroundings.
Collectors could name locations in familiar terms, document seller context through notes, and return to recognizable locations when adding more products. This made the experience easier to navigate while supporting the variety of stores, vendors, and environments encountered in the field.


I introduced structured dropdowns and more focused fields to reduce cognitive load and improve consistency as the list of products expanded.
Photos and notes gave collectors a way to document packaging, tax stamps, seller context, and other details that could not always be captured through structured fields alone.
I also created a clearer submit-and-resubmit loop so collectors could add several products at the same location, review what they entered, and correct mistakes without restarting the workflow.


The web dashboard brought entries, locations, users, images, and submission details into one place.
Search, filters, location summaries, and detailed entry views helped research teams review submissions, identify missing information, and understand where and how the data was collected.
By connecting the field experience to a clearer administrative system, the tool supported the full process from collecting prices to preparing the evidence for analysis and policy use.
